Facebook has been one of the biggest social media platforms for while but unfortunately it's not as good for marketing your video game unless your target audience is there. Even with popular games like Valheim you can notice that they get way less traffic on their Facebook page than their other social media platforms. It is still good to have a Facebook page where you can share content about your game that you post on other platforms anyways.
Setting up:
- Create a Facebook page dedicated to your game or company. In this case, it might be better to do one page for your company so if you have multiple games you won’t fragment your fan base. Managing multiple Facebook pages could become quite time-consuming. If you have a publisher then it might be better to use their page to post about your game.
- Add profile image of your company or game logo and background of your game banner.
To do:
Not to do:
- Show your trailer, it can be straight from YouTube and add introduction about you game. Pin that post.
- Share updates, devlogs, and general text posts
- Post content that you will post on your other social media platforms anyways.
- Share posts straight from your other social media platforms, this way you might redirect people to those other platforms as well.
- To get more exposure you can post your content from your Facebook page to a relevant gaming group (e.g. search for an indie games group)
- If this platform is your main focus, post around 3-5 times a week on your Facebook page. Recommended time to post is 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM PST on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Use scheduling tools to make it easier.
Not to do:
- Don't focus too much on Facebook unless you know that most of your audience should be there.
- Don't worry about the number and just keep it open as another window for the people to see you.
