With the amount of games being released just alone on Steam every month it is quite difficult stand out as a new indie developer. Your game could be amazing but with the lack of exposure through marketing it might not reach the intended audience and never get the love it deserves. Therefore marketing your game is as essential as creating the game itself.
Being present on social media platforms is one of the more important things that an indie developer can do to help get exposure for their game. There are many different social media platforms and this guide is supposed to help you with a few of them. Since social media marketing is quite volatile and constantly changing you can never take any guide as gospel but usually the core concepts stay the same.
One thing that will always help is staying consistent and posting on the platform constantly even when the form of content might not be as effective as it used to be. Even getting just 1-3 people to see your posts every day, it will accumulate over time and through that your posts will reach even a wider audience. You can’t expect to create a following within a day, it will take months if not more. However, trying to be effective using knowledge of how each platform works will help grow the following a bit faster.
This guide has been made with researched materials from other guides, notes from indie developers and my own observations. If you are interested in learning even more about indie marketing I recommend reading the book "A practical guide to indie game marketing" by Joel Dreskin and following Chris Zukowski's indie game marketing blogs.
There is also link to a simple video editor tool and uploader that was made during this project and can simplify creating short videos and GIFs.
